Alicia Bárcena
Executive Secretary - ECLAC
Alicia Bárcena became Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) on July 1, 2008. Previously, she served as Assistant Secretary General for Management at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and performed tasks such as Chief of Staff and as Deputy Chief of Staff of Kofi Annan, then Secretary General of the United Nations.
At ECLAC, she held the position of Deputy Executive Secretary and Director of the Environment and Human Settlements Division. At the United Nations, she was Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Program of Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Coordinator of the Environmental Citizenship Project of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
