Jesús Quintana García

Expert in Rural Development with almost thirty years of experience in the sector, much of which in international cooperation activities in various countries. Jesús has a degree in Forest Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and is a Sociologist graduated from the National University of Distance Education (UNED) of Spain. He obtained a Master’s degree in Environment and Development from the University of Reading (UK).
Before joining the Alliance, Jesús worked for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a United Nations organization dedicated to rural development, based in Rome, Italy, between April 2007 and February 2020. His last position at IFAD was to be Director of the Subregional Hub for the Andean and Southern Cone countries, as well as Country Director for Peru and Country Manager for Colombia, based in Lima (Peru). Between November 2018 and August 2019, Jesús also assumed the role of Acting FAO Representative in Peru.
Previously, Jesús was CEAR Representative in Mozambique (1994-1997); Country Director of IPADE in Bolivia (1997-1998) and Head of Programs with IDEA in Paraguay (2003-2004). He also held positions of Expert in Rural Development in Spain, Guatemala, Bolivia and the Philippines, among other functions.
Jesús Quintana has collaborated with various institutions, including the United States Development Agency (USAID), the Spanish Cooperation Agency (AECID), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA). He consulted for international companies and NGOs, and worked for the Spanish administration (Ministry of Agriculture) in positions related to rural, agrarian and forestry development.
