María Dolores Castro currently holds the position of regional director for the United Nations (UN) World Food Program (WFP) in 17 southern African countries, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has extensive international experience in conflict zones in many countries, including Rwanda, when the bloody civil war between Hutus and Tutsis broke out, causing the exodus of millions of people. She also participated in the emergency of the earthquake that struck El Salvador and where they had to attend to thousands of victims.
